Jessica (it was Jessica, Kashmiri, you were right - found the thread on the boards) commented on ElsaElsa she had difficulty understanding this particular axis, inspiring me to write about these two signs because my Nodal axis is Gemini-Sagittarius. I’ve had a few years direct experience with it moving from my South Node in Sagittarius childhood as a tomboy and generally solitary wild child to my North Node in Gemini life now. I am an active part of an astrological online community and communicate via computer and webcam with people around the world. Who would have thought it possible I’d be so comfortable with this shift.I see Sagittarius as concerned with understanding the big picture, the philosophical concepts behind civilization and belief systems. It is devoted to the pursuits of Truth with a capital “T” and is not noted for tact and diplomacy when expressing what it sees as the Truth. Most Sagittarius types also have a deep love of wide open spaces and being on the move. I have a dear woman friend with Sagittarius rising who loves to drive around the state with her truck driver dad just for the fun of it.
Gemini likes information too but of an entirely different sort. While Sagittarius prefers to withdraw and live a contemplative life, social Gemini enjoys being right in the middle of things chatting to everyone and anyone. They love collecting tidbits of information and squirreling them away to pull out to charm someone else down the line.
Another way to look at Gemini and Sagittarius is to remember Gemini rules the third house and Sagittarius the ninth. The third house is about siblings, your neighborhood and close friends, communications and all types of mental activity while the ninth house deals with foreign lands and far travels, higher education and philosophical pursuits. But both of these signs are mutable giving them a flexibility and ability to adapt.
I get really annoyed with the idea any sign is more “evolved” than another though I do subscribe to the idea the first six signs relate to the personal and the last six deal more with the collective. It makes sense that Gemini is more concerned with personal issues and Sagittarius with broad concepts affecting many of us. Gemini is also interested in connecting people with others with shared interests – the original go-between.
This photo was taken when I was around six, happily showing off the results of one of my dad’s hunts. The only reason I had shoes on was because my mom made me wear them when we went up into the hills. The clothes were probably worn by several other kids before they got to me because we were cash poor in those days but I didn’t care! Loved to run around in the brush and play by myself.
Oh yeah, Scorp rising had no problem handling dead critters . . .

LOVE this pic!!!! :-D
And the Gemini thing... I struggle with the Gemini thing!!! (in others!)
I think the "long engagement" has been long enough and needs to be terminated now... :-(
I know... "you told me so"... :-(
"Technically", I've got no Gemini nor Sadge... but with Placidus houses, my MC/IC axis does fall at 29.27 Scorp/Taurus, so it's to all intents and purposes a Gem/Sadge axis. I've also got a 28.28 Scorp Jupiter, which makes it quasi-Sadge... and there's no doubt I need to get teaching (at "higher levels") and publishing. (OK, so I'm already doing that and have been for 25 years. Just need to shift fields...)
Looking forward to reading others' comments re: this Gem/Sadge axis...
I'm definitely more at ease with Sadge than with Gemini (yes, what am I doing with a Gemini Merc, Venus, and possibly Moon? sigh/laugh)
Broad, superficial Gemini follows grounded Taurus. Think horizontal.
Sadge erupts vertically into the stratosphere, from the depth of Scorpio.
One isn't better than the other. They are simply on different missions.
Myself, I function better vertically. I dive into the depths of Scorpio then erupt into Sadge skies, over and over... as you know... :-)
Horizontal (bores) kills me dead. :-P
But thank goodness for the horizontal folks who provide nice resting plateaus!!! They have their place in the "ecosystem"!
I love the pic as well!
Btw, I have to think some more about this axis. I'll come back if I think of anything interesting. I probably won't. I just never thought about this axis before, which makes sense because I have Venus in Gemini in the 12th house.
Hi Jane!
And the Gemini thing... I struggle with the Gemini thing!!! (in others!)
took me surprisingly long to come to terms with Gemini too. I always put in down to having an irritating inconjunct between Uranus in Gemini & my Scorpio planets/ASC.
You would think with both of us being Libra Suns we would enjoy Geminis more. But there have been many more Sagittarius types in my life than Geminis.
But thank goodness for the horizontal folks who provide nice resting plateaus!!! They have their place in the "ecosystem"!
I'm one of those "horizontal folks" - at least on the surface. hee
Hey Eme Kah!!
yeah, well, I've see that pic of you as a little and the same spirit shines from both sets of eyes.
My progressed Sun was in Scorpio conjunct Jupiter at that time (in the 12th). I had started school the year before and hated everything except learning to read. The library & books were my escape all thru school.
"The library & books were my escape all thru school."
That's very Geminian, no?
I'm still thinking about the whole Gemini/Sagittarius axis. So far I don't have any insights.
That's very Geminian, no?
more Sagittarius I think. Gemini relates to writing them and Sagittarius to publishing and assembling libraries of books.
hee!
i think that was jessica's comment. although in all honesty i struggle with that axis too! i love this post, especially seeing your little face. you look so sturdy, like a little grown up! there's something so endearing about looking at friends' pictures of when they were little..:)

LOL! doesn't matter . . .
I just looked up your Jones chart pattern and it's a See Saw. Makes sense because it seems to me your earth-water side is always battling it out with your fire-air. Even though my chart is a Bowl (one of those self contained types) I do have my Sun & Moon in air with Rising & MC in water-earth, leading to a certain amount of confusion too.

Doesn't it seem like these photos of us as littles show the enduring qualities? Remember Elsa's ongoing discussion about people not changing? When I look at this pic, it is easy for me to understand that concept. BTW, I was always the shortest kid in my class at school. Didn't hit average height until my early twenties. Small but sturdy all right. :-)
"Doesn't it seem like these photos of us as littles show the enduring qualities?"
I think you're so right about this. I don't know if I agree with Elsa. I think I see the concept of people changing in a more nuanced way. That whole discussion made me think a lot and while there is definitely a fundamental essence to who we are, I also know that there have been events in my life that have impacted me so greatly that they changed that essence. I distinctly remember being very confident and loving myself at around the age of 8. Then I came here and went thru the whole thing with being an immigrant and having an abusive stepfather and that definitely shook my confidence to the core. I have not gotten back that Leo essence of myself before I came to the States.
I like my ex-bf's take on change the best, though. His philosophy is that your life changes when and only if you become MORE yourself. Which is a really awesome concept, I think, and much more accurate.

YES!! A very wise man, your ex. Elsa is not the most nuanced person but very caring . . . LOL
Love the photos you are sharing on FB. Great changes over your life indeed.
I'm glad you're enjoying those FB photos. I am DYING for there to be a change in my career right now. It figures that the company that I've been with the longest is also the worst company I've worked for.
I think I take that change/not-change argument too personally. Hmm. THAT might be part of the Gemini/Sag axis, in fact. I need change. The thought that one cannot change makes me feel DOOMED, for some reason, so I take that too personally. I don't know. On the other hand, when there's a lot of changes in life, it can get very exhausting and dispiriting as well. Stability is very comforting. I could use the right kind of stability right now. Anyway, when L made that observation (after years of experience as a psychologist), it opened up my mind. Because it's true that I see that people don't seem to change and they're FROZEN but yet at the same time, you can see that they're not being true to themselves.
Hmm, I'm very tired. I don't know if I'm making any sense. I wish I could NAP, mang.
Okay, here's another thought about the Gemini/Sagittarius axis. These are very half-baked, okay? Well, Gemini is superficial but we forget that sometimes we need superficiality. You can go deep and you can go deep but, believe me, there are moments in which you have to come up for air, so to speak, in order to be able to go back to the depths.
For instance, I remember when I was in grad school and I was working so hard and reading all these heavy books and engaging in intellectual conversations and... there were moments when I had to run out and buy a stupid fashion magazine. The mindlessness of it was invigorating. It was like taking a dip in a pool, if you know what I mean. Sometimes the superficiality of Gemini means that it's easy to put people at ease. It's small talk, yes, and many times it's just nervous chatter but it's the ability to be flexible for others. I think of Gemini as a butterfly and there's no denying that their kind of evanescent, fragile beauty is sorely needed at times. Hmm. Now, for me with the Venus in Gemini as the apex of the Moon/Pluto opposition, the theme has been "the unbearable lightness of being." Because lightness, as I said, and constant change can be exhausting.
So Gemini/Sag are both interested in intellectual and conversational connection; one goes deep and the other goes light. But you're never going to find anyone with a strong Gemini/Sag theme who will, say, go out with someone who's dumb but attractive. And for people with this axis in their chart, I'd say that if there is no intellectual connection, they feel abandoned. The funny thing is, of course, that these are very mutable signs who are prone to leaving people in the lurch, so to speak. Okay. That's all I got for now.
Mm, also the Gemini/Sag axis is about curiosity. It's about constantly having others shift your perspective about life and the world in general. You think things are one way and then it turns out they're not. And you have to learn to accommodate others' realities because there is not just ONE reality but many views and many takes. It's about diversity. Personally, I could never live in a homogeneous environment. I am very good at adapting to different environments and different cultures. Is it good? I don't know. I know I'm not a fake, though, so that's one part of me that I do like. I do wish I weren't so easily led, though. I do feel that my life has been way too mutable and that I've been too impressionable and willing to let others' ideas take over my life. That has been awful. The Leo Sun square Saturn in Taurus does mean that I'm genuine and that no one doubts my authenticity. Well, anyway. There you go.

excellent points all! Reading your comments reminds me you are also a very good writer. Don't know if I ever mentioned your Mercury being trine Pallas in your sixth house, but that is a great fit for working in publishing as well as writing. Here some info from my software on your Pallas:
Pallas in Sagittarius
Conquering new worlds is as simple as crossing the border, which you won't hesitate to do, with a well-thumbed guidebook in hand. You demand truth and clarity, but you'll need to get past the initial moves and flesh out the details before you are lord of what you survey, as any surveyor will tell you.
Pallas in 6th House
Routine should not be something that is simply tiresomely required, but the details of what sustains you. From every breath you take to each bite you swallow, if you pay attention and allow it to carry you, you'll find yourself along for the ride and not the other way around. Keep it essential, and it will keep you well.
The Leo Sun square Saturn in Taurus does mean that I'm genuine and that no one doubts my authenticity.
Not for a minute! You do have equal numbers of mutable & fixed planets with the sun in the fixed column & the Moon in the mutable.
thinking of changes, next year when Uranus hits Aries you will really start feeling the rumblings & when the opposition is exact the following year, watch out! :-D
Thank you! You're so generous, Neith! I am feeling a lot more positive and recently had a revelation about how much I've let fear rule my life. It's my responsibility to be brave and take on the world without expecting someone to rescue me. Smooches!
Eme, great food for thought! Thank you. Timely for me.
That rabbit was almost as big as you!
You sure hear my conversations with my parents, both Gemini. We'd make a fascinating case study.
They talk a lot more than I do - I feel like they need to, while I just grab most of the information intuitively.
That rabbit was almost as big as you!
Yes, it was a jack rabbit, a larger breed than the little cottontail bunnies we most commonly see. There are no more jack rabbits around here and haven't been for many years. Some sort of disease killed them all.
I was not a very big kid either . . . :-)

heh, Geminis ALL talk more than anybody and at the same time!! You learned to grab information intuitive because you needed too????? LOL
this is all very strange to me because i always think of Sagis as being SO very social...certainly my mother chatters and chatters along. You're saying they're supposed to be solitary sorts? this does not compute.
Now PISCES! SCORPIO! those can be very solitary and happily so...
neith, can i come live up in the NW? It's 105 here...it was hot last week...it was hot this week...it's going to be hot next week.
and when I say "hot" I mean above 97...for the foreseeable future. With no rain.
I was not meant for this...i need cool, foggy, misty, rainy gray...
Your tweet -- does this mean you're still having problems with your teeth, neith?
remember how I met you guys during my own great teeth crisis? you guys were like sanity to me...that was pretty much a "lost" summer -- lost to the tooth problems...which was really a jaw bone problem.
ouch. cyberhugs and hope they get better soon...

I know this type of Sagittarius too. they tend to talk at you rather than with you - at least the ones I've known have. But almost every Sag I've ever known (and there have been many . . .) harbored this image in their hearts of hearts of being able to retreat to some mountain top for contemplation.
Pisces & Scorpio can be flat reclusive - even when they are present physically. moi included :-)

oh that sounds much too hot, especially with high humidity.
If you want cool breezes and fog, you need to drive over the mountains to western Washington. I live on the dry side . . . :-)
Your tweet -- does this mean you're still having problems with your teeth, neith?
No, my teeth are now fine, just was scheduled for a cleaning & checkup. At close to $200 a visit, that's too much for our fragile budget right now.
Neith, you said..."I do subscribe to the idea the first six signs relate to the personal and the last six deal more with the collective."
Thanks. I learned something new! ~DreamsAReality
Thank you for the nice post, Jane. I post in realastrologers under the name Mem.
Hey ~DreamsAReality!! Thanks for dropping by here!
Another way of looking at the division of signs is to note the first six are below the horizon & the second six above in the natural wheel.
Some of this came together for me after I started writing lunation posts on a regular basis and realized how having everything from Jupiter to Pluto in the last three signs of the zodiac has pushed more awareness than usual of what's going on world wide. It will be interesting to see what happens starting with Uranus moving into Aries next year, followed by Jupiter in 2011.
Predictions in mundane astrology is far from my specialty but i do enjoy reading about it. Terry Lamb's Astro-Pol is a very good place to get an idea of what mundane astrology is all about.
One of the most fun things about astrology is you can always find something new to learn!! :-)
I don't know, when people describe Gemini, I always feel like it's a dumbass of a sign. (I'm a Gemini). Who wants to constantly be fluttering from one topic to another or collecting information without any interest in meaning? The other signs have depth of some sort, depth of thought (other air signs), depth of feeling (water signs), depth of purpose (some earth signs).
I can't say I don't get annoyed at Sagittarians I've met and their ill thought out personal philosophies.
I have a Sagittarius South Node and Gemini North Node too, in my 6th and 12th Houses, respectively. It's interesting to read about how they played out for you. For me, I've found that my Sagittarius South Node manifests as a kind of "know-it-all" type energy. I know I'm a very intelligent and worldly person, which has served me really well, but at times I've felt gave me carte blanche to pass judgment on things I hadn't experienced. Like I KNEW all about them, because I'd read about them and seen this documentary and saw something similar when I was in Paris, etc. &co. It also came about as this longing for the exotic. I was totally convinced that Europe was better than America, that Akira Kurosawa was better than Jean Renoir, that curly was better than straight, etc. Now I've found that the more I experience locally and in my own country and in subcultures that are "exotic" to me but are so not to most other people and not necessarily "glamorous," and the simpler my pursuits have become, I actually have FAR more constructive information and understanding, and a better connection to my immediate environment. That North Node!
Also, that picture is a slice of awesome. :)
Hey Lucy! Welcome! and thanks for adding to this post. :-)
I still admit to an inclination to think if it was made in Scandinavia, for instance, it has to be better. But with my Saturn-Pluto conjunction in my 9th house, travel abroad was far more "educational" and way less fun than I thought it would be. When people talk about spending time in Europe, part of me is sooo envious but the other part shudders.
As you can tell from that photo, i was a total tomboy! took a few years to learn civilized manners . . .
Oh my God- don't even get me started on Scandinavia. I think I have what qualifies as a legitimate Scandinavia fetish. When I finally get to go I will probably burst into flames.
