Right now Venus is stationing at 29˚ Pisces. With my Sun at 29˚ Libra, this is an important time for me because of two things: Venus rules Libra and we’re dealing with the anaretic degree or last degree in a sign.
I’ve read various articles about the anaretic degree and what it means and have come to some of my own conclusions from living for a few years with a Sun at said degree. One opinion is having planets at this degree makes it difficult for a person to make decisions. Well, being a Libra with Libra’s finely honed decision making skills, I don’t feel I waffle any more or less than any other Libra and I certainly don’t toss a coin at the last minute either. However, I do have a Mars-Mercury conjunction in Scorpio and nobody messes with the Scorpio.
Here is one opinion about what it means to have one’s Sun at 29˚.
“When positioned in the 29th degree of your chart, the Sun indicates a need to focus more on your identity and your sense of self. Answer the question, "Who am I?" Deeply consider your roots and how they've shaped the person you are. Issues with your father or your father figure may need to be resolved. You may often have difficulty relating to men due to this conflict. Keep your ego in check. Work on your sense of individuality and cultivate proactive channels of self-expression. Pay closer attention to certain aspects of your health, mainly issues concerning your heart, back and spine.”
I can relate to this. When my relationship with my father improved dramatically at around age forty, my self-image took a very positive turn. I also have done yoga or tai chi to maintain back health and flexibility on and off most of my adult life.
Another article mentioned planets at the anaretic degree often express qualities of the following sign and this makes sense especially with the Sun because it promptly progresses into the next sign within a year or so after birth. I know I was a very Scorpio type until around thirty when my Sun progressed into Sagittarius and I headed out for greener pastures.
As Venus prepares to station direct on Friday, the first thing that comes to mind is something ending to make way for a new beginning of some kind. Now we can associate that with sacrifice of some kind in true Pisces fashion but what if the ending was a period of unemployment? I know a bunch of people who would love to sacrifice all their free time for a paycheck!
Because Venus will pause at 29˚ for thirteen days, those of us with planets at this degree are receiving a gentle reminder above tidying up loose ends before the surge ahead. Since it’s my Sun, I’m working on adjusting my attitude about needless worrying - remembering to take each day as it comes and let tomorrow take care of its self.
Anyone else have a personal planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) at 29˚? How do you feel about that?
My Jetfire mini-daffodils and grape hyacinths blooming their hearts out. Wonderful harbingers of Spring here.

Hi Neith,
Well I don't have a personal planet at 29 degrees but I do have Jupiter at that point in Scorpio, 5 degrees from my MC. In my progressed chart, as you say, Jupiter is now in Sag. My natal moon is in Sag and I'm keeping an eye on that triple conj in Aqu (my sun sign) to see what happens. I have natal Venus in Pisces so interesting times all round.
When you did my report in Feb you said that your Asc, Mars and Merc were around my MC so there was good synastry between us when I asked you for a reading. So we know it works folks !!
Hi Rossa!
How are your creative endeavors going? That does seem to be one of the more successful ways to use a Neptune transit square natal Mars . . . :-)
hmmmmm - maybe the Venus-Mars conjunction next Tuesday will help your new venture!!
I guess there is something particular about that last degree of a sign. I think my Mother has her Sun at that degree in Gemini. But I imagine the degree 0 of a sign also has a particular significance.
Hooray! I have this degree too. :) The whole Venus transit has been affecting me immensely, so I don't yet know what to make of it stationing exactly inconjunct my Sun. The degree kind of runs in my family - my son has a 29 Virgo moon and 29 Cap Chiron, my mom has a 29 Libra moon, and my dad has a 29 Gemini Uranus and quite possibly even a 29 Scorpio moon (not sure on birth time).
I think it's kind of a make-or-break degree. I am definitely different in attitude and temperament than early-degree Libras who are my friends. More serious, more intense. It's not my moon sign, and my Sun has been progressed into Sag for a couple years now.
oh yay! you got the soap!
8" of rain yesterday. the water came up to the flowerbeds which is further than they've ever come before. Good thing it was a Saturday and perfect for knitting all day.
Hi DM!
I guess there is something particular about that last degree of a sign. I think my Mother has her Sun at that degree in Gemini. But I imagine the degree 0 of a sign also has a particular significance.Yes, zero degrees is considered a critical degree too. My granddaughter has her Sun at 0 Pisces and Moon at 0 Aries, so it will be fun to watch her express these.
There is something very, very pure about zero Aries (or the Aries Point). It's like the all preconceptions have been cleared away and we get a fresh start. Next year when Uranus hits that degree will be a real eye opener. The thing worth thinking on is Uranus at 29 Pisces is the ultimate time for taking care of old business. I remain undecided how i feel about being able to live through this but I'm sure it won't be boring!! :-D
Hey Jessica, my fellow 29 Libra Sun person!!
Hooray! I have this degree too. :) The whole Venus transit has been affecting me immensely, so I don't yet know what to make of it stationing exactly inconjunct my Sun.So glad you said this because it's exactly how I'm feeling. There is a sense of some deep underlying shift but because it's Pisces, we probably won't be able to get a grip on it until Venus gets back up to speed in Aries. Pooh!
I think it's kind of a make-or-break degree. I am definitely different in attitude and temperament than early-degree Libras who are my friends. More serious, more intense. We both have strong Scorpio stuff in our charts too and natal planets still trump progressed influences. :-)
Hey Casey,
8" of rain yesterday. the water came up to the flowerbeds which is further than they've ever come before. Good thing it was a Saturday and perfect for knitting all day.Good God! That's not raining, that's a waterfall coming out of the sky!! Haven't seen rain like that since I lived in Tucson, AZ and the monsoon rains would cause flash floods. Deafening noise too. Yup, good day to stay indoors and knit! :-D
Hello Neith,
I just found out about your blog. Just wondering if you can still answer my question. I have natal uranus at 29 virgo in 12th house and exactly conjunct my asc @ 29 and exactly square mc @ 29. would like to know your insight here when trans uranus will conjunct my dc. it will also square my natal venus in 3rd house, sag @ 26 and trine my natal neptune, 2nd house @ 26 in scorpio plus about will soon conjunct my natal chiron in 6th house in pisces @ 26. curently making an opposition with my natal pluto in virgo in 12th house @ 22. i hope it's not confusing. should i take a vacation somewhere remote and hide?...LOL!!! thanks for your response...highly appreciated.
I felt simply wonderful the last few days - I wonder if its because of this. Before then, I was in a bit of a rut and feeling a bit flat.
Hi - it's been a while! I've been incredibly busy, but I am glad you brought up the anaretic degree. Here's my take on it, and I'm surprised it's not mentioned already, because it's a concept from horary astrology.
A planet at the end of a sign is certainly going to be the void-of-course planet in the chart (or it has a partner planet or two that is). When a planet is void of course, it makes no other aspects before it leaves the sign, so it has limited availability to us. This means we may not use it very much in our lives. (Remember, the theory goes that once a planet changes signs the circumstances surrounding that planet completely change and this triggers a change in our perspective and approach.)
Second, a planet at the end of a sign is the last planet to be aspected by the Moon (and any other planet) each time as it proceeds through whatever sign it’s in. This means that in our train of thought and manner of processing things, it’s the last energy to be considered. This means that your Sun (your inner hero, the part of you that takes on challenges easily and joyfully) is the last thing you think of hooking into when dealing with a situation in life.
Finally, with respect to Venus, we have a very unusual situation! Venus retrograded through the sign of her detriment back into the sign of her exaltation. Beautiful! Then, Mars caught up with her — how many times do we see Mars (which is usually slower than Venus) catch up with her? (Or put in terms we can all relate to, how many times do you see men proceeding more quickly than the women around them and “catching up with them”? Seems to me that women usually do the chasing in spite of appearances, and that is reflected in the relative speeds of Mars versus Venus.)
This gives us plenty to ponder, but if you want one more thing, consider what Nancy Fenn mentioned: The fixed star Scheat is at 29̊ Pisces, and this star is no sissy. I thought, “How bad could it be - Venus is exalted, right?” Well, I’m here to tell you that Scheat helped me bring a particularly wounded aspect of my nature, and with the help of exalted Venus, I cleared it. Whew!
I have found the interactions of the planets over the past two weeks fascinating. Thanks for bringing up the anaretic degree, Neith!
Hi Neith, I was just researching the anaretic degree to learn more of it's significance and I find that you have your Sun on my MC... Isn't that nice? ;-) I'll have to research your writings further. I'm always wondering what I should be doing with a career and I'm so indecisive about it... I don't know what will make me happy. Your description of the Sun at 29 degrees Libra resonates for me as well. I've been a stay at home mom for 13 yrs, I'm happy about that, happy being very involved with the childrens' schools and activities but I feel the need to think ahead and do something!
Hi,Neith, I surely enjoyed your post about the Sun in the anaretic degree, as I don't believe I'd even heard the term, though I knew the 29th degree was important. I once knew a woman, quite a character, who I called a tri-cuspid. She had the Sun, Moon, and Ascendent all at the 29th degree of a sign. One of the three, I seem to recall, was at 29 Pisces. She kept us entertained, I'll tell you. You do good work!
