Sometime back Joe Landwehr asked if I would be interested in reviewing his latest book. Tracking the Soul is the first book in his Astropoetic series and it is my perception that it is more in the nature of a text for self-discovery and as such is a wonderful contribution to the astrological body of knowledge as well as an opportunity to undertake a journey of a lifetime.
Joe’s unique background enables him to combine concepts and language from yogic philosophy with western Astrology. And he does this brilliantly. The book is packed with great information for the person who is willing to invest time and energy into absorbing the concepts a step at a time. The language in particular requires a studious approach to learn. It reminds me of my experience of attending a Kotiteollisuus (Home Industry School) in Finland many years ago. We had only a brief course in the Finnish language before being sent to our schools where all the courses were taught in Finnish. Consequently I did not bother attempting to translate the weaving terminology into English; I just learned them in Finnish along with my Finnish classmates. This is what I recommend for getting the most from this book – reading it slowly, taking notes, and approaching this as a course of study – and learn the terms as presented.
His approach to astrology is innovative too. Here again learning the basic concepts and language is the key to opening up an amazingly effective system for understanding how we function as human beings. This is a great tool for an individual to learn about themselves and what they are focusing on learning in this lifetime – without any sense of prejudice. It is this level playing field view that I really appreciate about Joe. Much of my exposure to schools of spiritual thought and belief systems has been quite hierarchical in nature, with lots of groveling and such at the feet of the “masters”. Joe avoids stepping into this trap completely in this book and he unflinchingly uses his own chart and life to illustrate his points as well as charts of many other well-known individuals. Thank you, Joe, for being the real deal!
If you are interested in opening doors and windows in your mind, heart and soul, I recommend starting with this book and checking out the various courses of study Joe offers through his school, The Astropoetic School of Soul-Discovery. Be prepared to come out the other side seeing your world and yourself in a whole new light. Like they way this guy processes his information.
Thanks for the review.
Hey tseka! When I was reading this book, i kept thinking of you and how you would get a lot of it. :-)
Wow, sounds intriguing! I too dislike the hierarchical stuff so it's a plus in my book if the teacher is willing to let the sh*tty parts show right along with the shiny parts. :o)

ROFL!! Good one, Joe!! You know, I believe you as well as tseka would get a lot out of this guy's writings. He is a Sagittarius Sun/Mercury and both of you have Mercury in Sagittarius.
This was a rather weird thing for me because I found it very difficult to spend time with this book. Finally decided it had to do with my South Node in Sagittarius . . . the message for me was "door closed, move on to other things". No right or wrong attached at all.
