I just had to share this snip from Ray Merriman after all the "Doom & Gloom" predictions we've waded through lately. What he's saying here fits so much better with jm's take on what's going on. Let's keep our focus fixed on the most beneficial solutions manifesting over the course of the coming years. With Neptune involved we can aim very high indeed and celebrate beauty and compassion coming into the lives of everyone on the planet.
We are living in a Renaissance time, and most of us do not even know it, or cannot find the time to step back and appreciate it. Every 500 years Neptune and Pluto return to their same spatial relationship to one another. Every 171 years, Uranus and Neptune do the same. And every 126 years, Uranus and Pluto do the same. Three Uranus-Neptune cycles approximately equals one Neptune-Pluto cycle. And four Uranus-Pluto cycles equal approximately one Neptune-Pluto cycle. That means every 500 years or so, these 3 outermost planets in our solar system (well, they were until scientists re-labeled them this past year) are in approximately the same position in reference to the zodiac and one another.
In 1398-1399, Neptune and Pluto formed their conjunction at 2-4 degrees of Gemini, which was just about the time that Italian Renaissance officially began. These two planets did not come together again until 1891-1892 at 7-9 degrees of Gemini, which could be argued as the approximate period of the start of another renaissance that we are still living today.
But what is most interesting is that Neptune and Pluto moved into a long sextile (60 degree) aspect to one another from 1460 through 1540. This same relationship returned again 1950-2032. Due to Pluto’s elliptical orbit, Neptune actually comes inside of Pluto’s orbit and is closer to the Sun during some of this period. That is why this aspect remains in effect so long. In the late 15th century, as this sextile was in effect, the intellectual and artistic climate of Europe was extremely exciting. It was a time of innovative movements that completely transformed several aspects of life, from economics, to art, to religion and philosophy. The height of this was even more defined as Uranus and Neptune came into conjunction in 1478-79, and then into mutual reception with one another in the first decade of the 16th century (through 1509). The same thing is happening now, as Uranus and Neptune conjunct in 1993, and they entered into mutual reception (where each planet is in the other’s ruling sign) from 2003 through 2011 – while Neptune and Pluto remain in sextile.
We are in another Renaissance right now. In fact, I believe in time historians may look back upon the first decade of this 21st century and see that it too shared many characteristics of Renaissance Europe (and especially Italy ). The difference is that back then we didn’t know that Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto existed, which may be symbolic of the fact that we didn’t know how to handle this type of eclectic and electric excitement. Now we know of their existence, and with Neptune and Pluto in harmonious sextile, astrologers know that this is a signature of opportunity – opportunity to solve any crisis if we put our mind to it. After all, Neptune is the imaginative mind, and the quest for peace and beauty. And Pluto is to urge to reform – to get rid of that which is holding us back, and bring forth new models that are more relevant to the current and futures needs of humanity.
That’s why there is hope at the end of 2006. In the late 15th century, they didn’t know how to handle this dynamic. They weren’t even aware it existed, except perhaps on an intuitive plane. The heights that art, philosophy, and economics reached during that 100 year period, from 1390 through 1490, were incredible. But it all came toppling down at the end through excesses and indulgences on the part of the leaders of that period. That was the first time in thousands of years that Neptune and Pluto were sextile, while Uranus and Neptune were in mutual reception, for these orbital cycles are only approximately proportionate to one another. It will only happen twice.
And this is second and last time. Let’s get it right this time, and enjoy the greatness of what we have achieved as a human family occupying this beautiful planet, we call Earth.

HEY, I managed to trick the sign-in to get my own name this time :-)
Neith, thanks for this post. I'll repost the link on my own blog, in the comments section to sunny Michael Lutin's take on Pluto in Cap -- which I didn't see as entirely gloom and doom, actually. Just challenging. Nothing of value comes without conflict, and I'm sure that, with a little research, we could easily discover the disruptive, chaotic side of the Renaissance period.
What's really interesting about Ray's piece is his suggestion that we use these energies consciously to create something better. This is the big theme of our times, I believe, and I've written about it elsewhere. Before we can do that, we need to understand how they work, and that's what we're in the process of doing now.
Thanks again for this. It's what the Web is all about.
Neith!!!!!!!!!!
You did it!!!!! This has absolutely blown my mind. Finally.
Thank you from the totality of my heart.
I thought I was alone. I've been convinced for some time that the renaissance is here. In fact, about 15 years ago, one night I had an all-nighter with a brilliant man on this subject and I felt its truth. The events now are the destruction of what's holding this back.
It's the last quadrant thingy. And the extreme violence of the last century. Now I know why the violence is diminishing.
This is absolutely tremendous. He certainly has a lot of confidence to say this right now with such certainty. I am impressed. Now I know why I've rejected all the others with their groupthink.
Wonderful, wonderful.
I'm so excited neith.

You know my view on this. I think we should start promoting this big time. I'm going to post on it tying in with the violence, and I think we should continue to talk as much as we can about it in the face of the doubt. Now is the time. Jupiter in Sag is the kick-off for me this year, and Pluto at the end going into Capricorn with Jupiter is a big step.
Now I know why we came together. The job is beginning.
The thing is Ray Merriman is a hugely respected member of the International Astrology community. He gives lectures on financial astrology all around the world . . . and for an astrologer of his stature to come with this statement now is very exciting!!! We know what we know & to have that knowledge being affirmed from a number of different quadrants make me very, very happy indeed!!
Actually there is a great deal of disruption & chaos in the world at this very moment, even in this country. For those of us in the cold & snow of Winter in the North, it seems very quiet . . . nice little illusion that. It is my hope that the necessary "housecleaning" Pluto style can be moderated by keeping our focus on spreading kindness & appreciation of the infinite possibilities the Universe provides. Small everyday acts of kindness have a larger effect than one could guess . . . it sets a tone as it were.
I've been working on making it possible for the photos to be viewed . . . if it's working now, could someone please let me know?! Thanks!! :-)
Great post and comments. Mirrors what we have been saying in my local circle of friends.
LOVED the Yeti hanging!!!
still looking at the other photos.
Bath remodel is looking like progress indeed.
back after i see the suite.
mmmm, makes me homesick.
Although today was brilliantly beautiful here. I managed to enclose one of my projects with siding. An adventure. I survived. I need a helper. I admit it. I can't do it all by myself.
LOL, boy do those bath remodel photos bring back memories of my own remodel in '03. It's amazing how different it looks from stage to stage. I felt so hopeful, and yet apprehensive, when everything was ripped out down to the bare boards, studs, and insulation. Potential.
I ought to post a photo of my bathroom, before and after.
An adventure. I survived. I need a helper. I admit it. I can't do it all by myself.
Which is why my Aries had plumbing & electrical subs, all friends of his, come in & do that part of the job. He's finally realized he can't do it all by himself either. I helped put up the big sheets of 'rock . . . was frustrated because I was still so weak from being ill. Pride goeth before a fall, etc, etc . . . :-)
We are re-finishing a old mahogany hollow-core door & jamb for the bedroom. We washed & sanded it down, then used a lacquer stain on it. Amazing stuff!! We both had heavy duty respirators on though. It's a paint on, leave 5 minutes & wipe off treatment and we'll follow it up with a sanding sealer & clear, water based finish.
Thanks for checking that link for me!! I will keep adding photos & leave a note in the comments section of the current post whenever i do . . . . it's lots of fun!!
The Yeti hanging is a piece I did for an independent study course in college. Used lots of hand-spun yarns - both linen & wool. One of the few tapestry style pieces I wove, took most of a summer to do. Used a simple picture frame type of loom & wove it all by hand . . . I prefer floor looms, easier on the back & faster!!!
I loved this post, neith.
Ice? Snow? Two blizzards on jm in one week?
strange days, indeed. But so nice to know we're in a renaissance.
Okay, I found my bearings...I was thinking "Yeti hanging"? What "Yeti hanging"? Then I found your photos. Love them...now I can see up close the knitting in your vest (looks even better up close).
But I can't think of yetis without thinking of "Escape from Katmandu" and the yeti named Buddha wearing sunglasses and a baseball hat meeting Jimmy Carter...
Love them...now I can see up close the knitting in your vest (looks even better up close).
I am pleased with the quality I'm getting with my camera so far. Still need to figure out more stuff but that will come. Webshots allows for good quality uploads & presentation.
Stopped by your Sim blog and realize that Friday Night Lights is a show we're going to have to catch. We've been watching the second season of Lost on DVD here lately. From what I understand it's the third season where that show started wandering too far afield.
It's the Others. And the going back forth between the regular camp and the Others' place. I've "lost" patience with them. It's like the third season of Alias...so much promise. Then...blech. I'm glad you stop by my blog. All my simming friends have become very disenchanted with the site and rarely stop in anymore. I'm down to my regular four readers. And one of them told me today to e-mail her cuz she just doesn't drop in very often. sigh.
I'm heavily involved with my season 4 of 24...must get in the adrenaline rush mood for the new season coming up.
I love your phrase in post below, "the turn of the year." Plus all the snowy pictures.
Thanks for this post - I got to it via astrodynamics. I published a similar piece on my blog on 4th Sept at astrotabletalk.blogspot.com Regards Dharmaruci
